Tips & Techniques – Using Ink on Chipboard or Thickers

American Crafts Thickers or any brand of Raw Chipboard letters are perfect for adding your own special touch to with ink.

The small Versacolour cubes, or the Cat’s Eye ink are the right size to use as “alternative paintbrushes” by simply brushing over the bottom or top edges of your letters with the ink colour softly.

Use one colour at the base of each letter for a simple gradation of tone. Use two colours – one at the top and one at the bottom and merged in the middle – for a more spectacular effect.

The combinations of inks and effects are endless – just imagine a metallic gradient, or a dreamy effect such as the one I have created on top of these American Crafts White Foam Thickers:

In this LO I have used cream thickers with a Yellow ink over the bottom half to mirror the sunset effect of the photos.

And here, the same effect with the pink ink over the top of white thickers, but this time from the top of the letters down.

Some good colour combinations I can imagine are:

* Tan and Blue over the top of white thickers.

* Red and Green over the top of Gold thickers for Christmas.

* Silver Ink on White for a Snow themed LO.

* Brown on Cream thickers for a Vintage look.

Have fun and happy scrapping girls!
