Tips and Techniques - Using Playing Cards

PLaying Cards.

Yep – you heard me – playing cards. There is more than one way to use them – not in a card game like my granny (or my DH – snort!) but on your LO’s!
There are absolutely OODLES of different types of playing cards out there and the best part is that they are as cheap as chips! They come in a box of 52 – so you gotta be happy with that. I find my packs of playing cards in various odd places – Vinnies and other Op Shops, I have rello’s giving me their collections, I buy them online (eBay sells them in the “Collectables” section).
If you find a really good set you can use both sides as they have the most glorious designs on them. Heidi Swapp was on a winner when she designed her big ones, but they are a wee bit big to use on a LO (and how many LO’s can you use them on before they look a little “tired”?).

Here is a set that I have collected over time – not really killing myself to get them – just when I feel like it.

So here are only a few ways you can use your playing cards on a LO:

As a Fancy First Letter – the number 9 card (in any suit) works brilliantly as an “H”:

As a Funky set of Stars cut out using the Sizzix machine:

As a Bookplate or similar behind your title:

As a Mini Frame around a smaller photo (the Royal cards can be used for this – just cut out the inner picture):

As a Tag – you cut off the top corners and attach some funky ribbon, then write your journalling on top:
